people watching

Last sunday afternoon there was a free Chopin concert in the Luxembourg gardens. Nice piano music + lots of people sitting and staring the other way = perfect opportunity to get in some sketching. If only they didn't fidget around so much.

patisserie review, part trois: the tarte au citron

Extreme examples of the tarte au citron: the mini version above from the local bakery, with its nice little dollop of meringue on top, and the slice below which I enjoyed at a lovely tea shop in the Marais, and is basically the exact opposite...

I am proud to say I finished most of it. And it was AWESOME.

revenge

You can imagine what happened next.

Several people in the past week have told me that it's good luck if a pigeon poops on you. I would argue that it would be much better luck for it to not happen in the first place. Especially if you're wearing a new jacket. First thing in the morning.

When, in art class a few months ago, we had to choose an animal to draw and make a character with, i picked the pigeon. I thought it was misunderstood, under-appreciated, unloved. I would draw some nice, friendly pigeon characters to restore its reputation. After last week's events, my feeling have somewhat altered. To the cheery pigeon sketches of a couple months ago, I now add the following:

Super-evil-villain pigeon.

snooze

I've been going to the national library recently to do research on an essay I need to write for university. Now would really be a good time to get over my tendency to fall asleep when reading history books...

patisserie review, part deux: the millefeuille

Another lunchtime indulgence - or, excellent excuse to order pastry on an average thursday afternoon. I've had millefeuille before so this wasn't a new experience, but it's still not something you eat everyday (usually).

The verdict: Surprisingly lighter than the Paris-Brest, this was actually possible to finish in one sitting. Good quality custardy-cream filling and nice, slightly crispy, puff pastry layers. However, with no cutlery or plate available, this isn't something that can be eaten with elegance or subtlety.

It's worth it, though.
